Prior to the 2008 primary and general elections, the Currituck County Board of Commissioners establish a series of residency districts to more equally re-apportion voter representation. This redistricting led to establishing five (5) residency districts, and the addition of a second “At Large” seat on the Currituck County Board of Commissioners.
Residency District 1 was formed to include only the mainland portion of Moyock Township.
The Gibbs Woods portion of Moyock Township was grouped into Residency District 1, which also includes: Knotts Island, Carova Beach and Whalehead Beach (Corolla).
