Feb 6 : NWS issues Tornado Watch for area

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va (AKQ) in conjunction with the NWS Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has issued a Tornado Watch effective 12:40 pm local time until 7 pm for the following North Carolina counties:

BEAUFORT, BERTIE, CAMDEN, CHOWAN, CUMBERLAND, CURRITUCK, DARE, DURHAM, EDGECOMBE, FRANKLIN, GATES, GRANVILLE, GREENE, HALIFAX, HARNETT, HERTFORD, HOKE, HYDE, JOHNSTON, MARTIN, NASH, NORTHAMPTON, PASQUOTANK, PERQUIMANS, PITT, SAMPSON, SCOTLAND, TYRRELL, VANCE, WAKE, WARREN, WASHINGTON, WAYNE, WILSON

A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes. A tornado watch therefore implies that it is also a severe thunderstorm watch.
