The Currituck Knights (#27 seed) men’s basketball team upset the Morehead Panthers (#6 seed) by a score of 69-65 in the first round of the 2020 2A NCHSAA state playoffs Tuesday, February 25.
Missed free throws by the Panthers and the Knights ability to capitalize on Panther turnovers late in the game combined to be the key to the upset victory on the Panthers home court.
Morehead came out strong in the 1st period outscoring Currituck 16 – 10. The Knights kept the 2nd period closely matched (16-17). The Knights outscored the Panthers by 6 points in the 3rd period (21 – 15) and 5 points in the 4th period (22-17) to secure the win.
Senior Kentrial Harvey led scoring for the Knights with 21 points, sophomore Camillo Burton (#12) added 19 and sophomore Ernest Harris contributed 15.
Coach Gunnell Rupert and the Knights varsity basketball team travel to Thomasville, NC for the second round playoff game versus #22 seed Ledford Senior (Thomasville, NC) on Thursday, February 27 @ 6 pm.
